Information is Ammunition
Scouting is the absolute most important fundamental skill in any competitive real-time strategy title. That is exactly what playing a tower rush game without scouting feels like. They would rather spend that 50 gold on another archer than on a weak, fast-moving scout unit. If you see they are greedily expanding their economy, you can launch a timing attack to punish them. We will cover early-game worker scouting, mid-game map control, and reading the enemy's tech transitions.
Securing Initial Intel
As soon as you start your basic production, send one resource gatherer across the map to the enemy base. This initial read determines whether you need to play defensively or if you are safe to expand your own economy. Force the enemy to pull their own workers or build early units just to chase your scout away. Failing to recognize an empty base as a sign of extreme danger is a classic, fatal rookie mistake. You now know their opening build order, allowing you to seamlessly transition into the perfect counter-strategy.
Never send your entire slow-moving death ball into the darkness just to see what the enemy is doing. These neutral structures provide massive, passive vision radiuses over critical attack paths and intersections. Information is the best possible use of your excess mana in the mid-to-late game stages. If left unchecked, these hidden bases will quietly fund a massive, unbeatable late-game army. When preparing to attack an enemy base, always send a single unit slightly ahead of your main force.
Strategic Foresight
If you see a sudden surge in gas mining but no new tier-one units, they are hoarding resources for a higher tier. Look specifically for the construction of advanced research facilities or specialized production buildings. If you scan their base and see absolutely zero army units, they are likely moving across the map for a surprise attack. Do not trust a single glance; verify the enemy's commitment before altering your entire macro strategy.

Make scouting your highest priority, and watch your win rate skyrocket as a direct result. Keep sending units into the darkness until you have a crystal-clear picture of their overall strategy. Review your replays specifically to analyze your scouting efficiency compared to the enemy. Remember that scouting is a physical skill that requires dedicated APM and multitasking ability.
